Spain Info July: …… and what are we doing tomorrow?

it's holiday time! Perhaps you're already lounging by the pool at a hotel or on the beach, or you can't wait to start your holiday ....

Whatever the case, Spain's Mediterranean coast and the Balearic Islands are ideal destinations for a relaxing, stress-free holiday. And of course, they also offer plenty of options for active holidays, beyond the beach bar cocktails.

How about swapping your swimming costume for some mountain boots? The Costa Blanca and Mallorca, in particular, offer plenty of excellent hiking areas, with some 2,500km of waymarked trails awaiting visitors in Valencia alone. Fans of Mallorca will know that the island offers much more than just the beach and the sea. Almost the entire west of the island is an ideal hiking area, with the Serra de Tramuntana rising to almost 1,500 metres (Puig Major).

You can also discover the magnificent landscape and reconnect with nature on the Pilgrim's Way to Santiago de Compostela, a spiritual journey inviting meditation and poetry. Flights to northern Spain are available from almost anywhere, and you can join the route at several points. What's more, you don't have to walk....many people make the journey (Camino Francés) by mountain bike or on horseback.

Cycling is also possible almost everywhere on Mallorca (superb routes!) and on the mainland. However, it's best to reserve this activity for the early morning or evening in summer. Temperatures in excess of 30 degrees in July and August can 'slow down' some physical activities.

The same applies to a round of golf on one of the many courses on the central Mediterranean coast or on Mallorca.

The choice of water sports in Spain is almost limitless. Diving? Sailing? Jet skiing? Stand-up paddling? Kayak, kite or surf? No problem! Even if you don't have any experience, there are courses for beginners just about everywhere!

Are you spending your holidays on the Costa Blanca this summer? My advice: go to Valencia! A superb old town  (casco antiguo) and the "Ciudad de Artes y Ciencias" the City of Arts and Sciences (an exciting collection of modern buildings by star architect Santiago Calatrava) await you there.

Do you prefer comfort and privacy?

How about a trip to Madrid? With the AVE (Alta Velocidad Española, the high-speed train; 300 km/h), for example, you can reach the capital in less than 2.5 hours from Alicante. Once you're in Madrid, you can not only take the classic double-decker bus around the city, but also visit the Prado, one of the best museums in the world.

Discover Spain! Its varied culture, its people, its landscapes, or its History with its castles, "Castillos", there is an incredible number of them in each region.

Perhaps you simply want to enjoy your holidays while taking it easy, and taking a break from everyday life. If so, why not, after a relaxing day, sit down at one of the many restaurants offering delicious Spanish specialities and fine wines (well beyond the hotel buffet).
